Notion AI is the AI assistant built into the Notion workspace by Notion Labs, Inc., drafting, editing, summarizing, and translating content and automating multi-step work across docs and databases. Full Notion AI access is a paid feature bundled into Notion's Business plan, which starts at €19.50 per member per month; there is no standalone free tier for full Notion AI.
Who builds it
Notion AI is built by Notion Labs, Inc., the company behind the Notion workspace at notion.com.
What it does
Inside Notion pages and databases, Notion AI drafts new content, rewrites and summarizes existing text, translates it, and adapts its tone of writing — the way you'd explain something to a peer differs from how you'd phrase it for an executive, even when the underlying content is the same. Because it operates inside the same workspace used for docs, wikis, and project databases, it can automate multi-step work across that content rather than just generating isolated blocks of text. Notion also exposes a full REST API so developers can read, create, and update pages, databases, users, and comments programmatically.

- Tone-of-writing adaptation for the same content across different audiences
- Team collaboration built around Notion's shared workspace, docs, and databases
- Export to Markdown, PDF, and HTML
- Full REST API for reading, creating, and updating workspace content
- SOC 2 Type 2 compliance
- Data residency: US by default, with EU (and other) regions available free of charge on the Enterprise Plan
Who it's for
Notion AI suits teams already living inside Notion as their docs and project-management tool who want AI woven directly into that workspace rather than a separate chat window — drafting, summarizing, and translating in place, and automating workflows across pages and databases. The limited free-plan AI responses let individuals sample the feature, but sustained use requires moving the whole team onto a Business or Enterprise plan, which makes Notion AI more of a team/organizational purchase than an individual one.
Data and compliance
By default, Notion data resides in the United States. Customers on the Enterprise Plan can choose EU (and other) data residency free of charge, giving organizations with regional requirements a documented option without an extra fee. Notion states SOC 2 Type 2 compliance for its security controls; organizations with stricter requirements should confirm current terms on Notion's own data-residency and security pages.
