Profile

Mistral AI — La Plateforme

La Plateforme is the developer API of Mistral AI, the Paris-based lab behind the open-weight Mistral and Mixtral models. It is the reference European alternative to OpenAI and Anthropic for teams that want frontier-class text models under EU jurisdiction. Per Mistral's help centre, "By default, your data is hosted in the European Union."

On the paid API and Le Chat Enterprise, Mistral states it does "not use your Input and Output to train our artificial intelligence models" — but on the free tier "input and output data are used by default to train our artificial intelligence models, unless you opt-out", an important nuance for compliance teams. A US API endpoint exists: "You may, however, explicitely use our US API endpoint and in such a case your data is hosted in the United States." The API mirrors the OpenAI chat specification, easing migration.

Mistral also publishes open-weight models under Apache 2.0, so regulated organisations can self-host. Pricing is freemium, with paid tiers billed per token.

Frequently asked questions

Does Mistral train on my API data?

Not on the paid API or Le Chat Enterprise — those are excluded from training. The free Experiment tier does train on inputs and outputs by default unless you opt out.

Where is my data stored?

In the EU by default. A separate US API endpoint is available and routes data to US infrastructure if you choose it.
