1X NEO is a home humanoid robot built by Norwegian-American company 1X Technologies to do household chores like tidying, laundry, and fetching items; it is open for pre-order in the US for $20,000 outright (or $499/month) with a $200 refundable deposit, and first customer deliveries are targeted for late 2026. NEO is one of the first humanoid robots explicitly designed and marketed for the home rather than a factory or warehouse.
What it is
NEO is a bipedal, human-sized domestic assistant robot intended to perform everyday household tasks — folding laundry, tidying rooms, fetching objects, opening doors, and similar chores — under a mix of autonomous operation and remote teleoperator assistance for tasks it hasn't yet learned.
Manufacturer & origin
NEO is made by 1X Technologies AS, a Norwegian-American robotics company founded in 2014 in Norway (originally as Halodi Robotics) by roboticist Bernt Børnich. The company is now headquartered in Palo Alto, California, with manufacturing in Hayward, California and Moss, Norway. 1X has been backed by the OpenAI Startup Fund since 2023, alongside investors such as EQT Ventures and Samsung NEXT.
Build type & design
NEO is a humanoid with a soft, head-to-toe body shell made of custom 3D-lattice polymer structures (available in tan, gray, or dark brown), designed to be safe to touch and quiet around people (rated at 22 dB). It uses 1X's patented Tendon Drive actuation system rather than rigid gearboxes. Its five-finger hands provide 22 degrees of freedom each (44 total); overall articulation includes 7 DoF per arm, 3 in the neck, 2 in the spine, and 6 per leg.

What it's used for
NEO is positioned purely for the home: chores such as laundry folding, shelf organizing, tidying rooms, fetching items, opening doors, and turning off lights. It is not marketed for industrial, warehouse, or commercial deployment.
Availability & price
NEO is available for pre-order in the United States for $20,000 (outright purchase) or $499/month (subscription), both requiring a $200 refundable deposit. 1X targets first deliveries to US homes in late 2026, with Canada following shortly after and Europe and select Asian markets targeted for 2027. As with any pre-order humanoid product, actual ship dates could shift; 1X has not published a fixed contractual delivery date for individual orders.
